How socially mature
is your law firm?
This report marks the first edition of our social media barometer for UK law firms.
This report marks the first edition of our social media barometer for UK law firms.
Most law firms know social media matters, but very few know how well they’re actually performing.
The Social Media Barometer is the first UK-wide benchmarking report designed to answer one simple question: how effectively is your firm using social media as a strategic business tool?
It benchmarks the top 100 UK law firms by headcount against four clear, practical measures of social media maturity, giving you a realistic view of where you sit, what’s working, and where the biggest opportunities lie.
Law firms are surrounded by social media noise.
What’s been missing is a fair, comparable benchmark that works for firms of very different sizes and structures.
This barometer was built to change that.
Rather than rewarding scale alone, all scores are rebased so the strongest performer in each category scores 10, with every other firm measured proportionally against that benchmark. That means a regional firm of a few hundred people can be meaningfully compared with a global practice of several thousand.
The result is a dataset that moves the conversation away from “who shouts loudest” and towards what actually drives impact.
Each firm receives an overall Social Media Maturity Score, made up of four component scores:
Taken together, these four measures turn the barometer into a decision-making tool, not just a league table.
It helps firms understand:
How visible they are as a brand
How embedded social media is across their people
How effectively individual voices and leaders amplify the firm’s reputation
And, crucially: where to invest time, energy and budget for maximum impact.
