FAQs

What’s in it for me?

A voice.

The truth is, most internal surveys aren’t designed to make change, they’re designed to keep control or reassure firms that they’ve already made the right decisions.

This one’s different. It’s built to be honest. It’s independent. Built to be useful. Built to be heard.

Give us 15 minutes, and we’ll use what you say to make firms take notice.

No. And they never will.

Your responses go into a secure system. Names aren’t attached. IP addresses aren’t tracked. We’re not interested in outing anyone.

We’re interested in patterns, in data, in real stories that need to be told, without putting anyone’s neck on the line.

Because this one isn’t about checking a compliance box.

And we’re not starting from the question, “What would leadership like to hear?”

We’re starting with: “What do lawyers actually care about right now?” and “What are you experiencing at work right now?”

We’ll look across firms. Across practice areas. Across regions. And we’ll show the truth of how the associate experience stacks up today.

 Me. Simon Marshall.

I wrote the Associate and Partner surveys for Legal Business back when people still circled things in biro. Literally hard copy entries.

Since then, I’ve worked with firms, journalists and legal comms teams across the UK, and I’m trusted to get the tone right and treat your data and insights with the respect they deserve.

This time, it’s not being done for a magazine. It’s being done because the industry needs a mirror held up to it. And because no one else is better placed to do it. We don’t advise on HR issues, so we can report independently with no onwards motive.

We’ll publish a report. The top level findings on your firm will be free and if you sign up here, you’ll get it.

If we get enough responses from your firm, they’ll get their own anonymised data set too, with benchmarking so that they can make better informed decisions.

That way, they can see what’s working, what’s not, and how they compare.

Yes. This isn’t an anonymous rant into the void. This is a structured, independent data set for law firms to act on.

We’re going to show them what life looks like from your side of the desk, and show everyone what the best firms are getting right.

If they care about retaining their people, they’ll pay attention.

Associates from the Top 200 UK law firms.

Magic Circle, Silver Circle, national firms, regional players, boutiques — all welcome.

We’ll compare apples with apples. No dodgy comparisons between six-seat City teams and full-service regionals.

The idea is to give you — and them — real, meaningful insight.

No.

You’ll get the survey. You’ll get the report. Maybe one or two updates if you want them.

But I’ve worked in legal marketing long enough to know what a professional inbox should not look like.

Yes and I wrote it up in Legal Business magazine.

You can always call me on my direct line if you need to and our call will be treated with the same discretion as your data will be.

Sure. Just tell us where you’ll be employed at the end of September 2025 and we’ll take it from there.
