TBD Marketing expands pro bono support

TBD Marketing has expanded its pro bono commitment to organisations working to improve support, opportunity and workplace culture across the legal profession.

Over the past year, the agency has provided strategic communications, marketing, media relations and digital support to a growing number of initiatives tackling some of the sector’s most pressing challenges, from supporting legal professionals affected by cancer to championing social mobility and driving conversations around leadership, wellbeing and workplace culture.

The work includes founder Simon Marshall joining  the boards of both Law Beats Cancer and Living Law Better, as well as the agency building their websites and campaigning resources; alongside providing ongoing support through marketing and PR to Be The Ladder.

Collectively, the three organisations are helping to address issues that continue to shape careers across the profession, including access to opportunity, wellbeing, inclusion, leadership and long-term career sustainability.

Law Beats Cancer supports legal professionals affected by cancer, helping to raise awareness, build community and provide support for those navigating illness themselves or alongside loved ones.

Living Law Better is a new movement focused on modernising leadership, culture and working practices across the legal sector. Launched earlier this year, it has already secured more than 60 public pledges from legal professionals, generated more than 3,000 LinkedIn reactions and 1,000 comments, attracted support from managing partners across international, national and regional firms, and received interest from legal professionals across the UK, Europe, Australia and the United States.

Be The Ladder champions inclusion and social mobility within the legal profession, recognising and celebrating the individuals and organisations helping to create a more accessible and equitable sector. Founded by Dr Trevor Sterling, TBD has been a supporter and sponsor since it was founded in 2024.

All work has been delivered on a pro bono basis, and resulted in strong results across campaigning, marketing and media coverage.

Simon Marshall, founder of TBD Marketing, said:

“The legal profession is full of people who want to make a difference. It’s one of the reasons most of us join.

“Whether that’s supporting colleagues through serious illness, creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds, or challenging outdated ways of working, there are individuals across the sector giving their time and energy to make law better.

“What many of these initiatives have in common is that they are powered by volunteers. They have the passion and expertise to drive change, but not always the resources.

“We’ve been fortunate to work alongside organisations that are tackling important challenges across the profession. Supporting them through our own expertise is such a natural way to contribute and something the team do with the same enthusiasm, skill and passion they do for client work.

“These organisations focus on different issues, but they share a common goal: creating a legal profession where people are better supported, have greater opportunities to succeed and can build fulfilling, sustainable careers that make a difference to society.”

Juliet Schalker, Partner at Debenhams Ottaway and founder of Living Law Better says:

“I’m so grateful to Si and the TBD Marketing team for their support in helping bring Living Law Better to life.

One of the core ideas behind the movement is that when commitment becomes visible, it becomes change. The legal profession is full of people who want to make things better, but turning good intentions into something people can see, engage with and be part of takes time, expertise and hard work. And that’s what TBD have done. They don’t just say these things matter; they show it, and put in their effort and resources to back that up. Their support has enabled us to reach more people, share more stories and build momentum behind a movement that believes the profession can be healthier, more sustainable and more inclusive.”

TBD Marketing said it plans to continue investing pro bono time and expertise into organisations working to create positive change across the legal sector.
